Born december 18, 1768 in Paris.
She studied under Jacques-Louis David and Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun.
She was the first western artist to depict an African person as the main subject matter in her famous painting “Portrait d’une Negress”. This painting was her way of acknowledging and approving the end of slavery and the emancipation of women.
